FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oakville, Ont., January 30, 2025 – The Oakville Community Foundation will be distributing $100,000 to four different community priorities thanks to the money raised during the 2024 GIVEOakville campaign.
For the first time ever, donors to the 2024 GIVEOakville campaign were able to donate to a specific community priority. Fundholders, OCF Community Funds, and the general public all responded overwhelmingly to the need.
The funds raised for these special categories have allowed The Foundation to work collaboratively with trusted charitable partners to ensure the money will have the biggest impact in addressing these pressing local issues.
The four community priorities were identified as areas of urgent and high need in Oakville and include: Intimate Partner Violence, Feed Oakville, Mental Health Alliance, and the Urban Forest Fund.
“We are grateful to the generous local donors who chose to give to these community priorities through the GIVEOakville campaign and for the support of our Fundholders and Community Funds,” said Wendy Rinella, CEO of the Oakville Community Foundation. “The community priorities model works because when we address big issues collaboratively, we can effect real change for people in need of support and build a better community together.”
Intimate Partner Violence Epidemic – $30,000
Intimate Partner Violence was declared an epidemic by both the Oakville and Halton councils and triggered The Foundation to invoke its Oakville Resiliency Fund. Money donated to this Fund will be distributed among: Halton Women’s Place, The Women’s Centre of Halton, SAVIS and Thrive Counselling.
Feed Oakville – $35,000
Feed Oakville is a collaborative approach to ensure no one goes hungry in our community. Hub partners include Food For Life, Kerr Street Mission and Feed Halton, who will advise The Foundation on how to distribute the funds.
Mental Health Alliance – $15,000
The Mental Health Alliance is a collaboration between six community health partners who have been brought together to provide sector-wide integration and support in order to address the complex mental health and addiction challenges faced by individuals. Community partners will advise on how to distribute the funds and include: Canadian Mental Health Association – Halton, Support House, ADAPT, Summit Housing & Outreach Programs, HOPE Place Centres and STRIDE.
Urban Forest Fund – $20,000
The Urban Forest Fund supports growing the tree canopy throughout Oakville through the planting of more trees. Funds will be distributed to the Oakvillegreen Conservation Association to grow Oakville’s urban forest canopy and enhance natural diversity.
