FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oakville, Ont., February 4, 2025 – The Community Education Awards Hub has reopened for 2025 with more scholarships, bursaries and education awards for Oakville and Halton students. Available awards are worth between $750 and $20,000.
The Awards Hub was created in 2020 to make it easier to create, apply and award scholarships. With more than a dozen organizations on the platform, it’s the best place for local students to apply for money toward their post-secondary studies.
Award requirements vary, from top marks, to extra-curricular activities, to an interest in specific areas of study as well as students with financial barriers to post-secondary education.
Since 2020, the Awards Hub has been accessed by over 3,550 students.
Some of the available awards include:
- The Oakville Youth Education Award Thanks to a generous match from Board Chair Mike Miller, 20 students will be awarded a one-time scholarship worth $2,000 to recognize those who demonstrate non-academic achievements. This award is open to all graduating Oakville high school students pursuing post-secondary education.
- The Kick Start Your Education Fund is a one-time scholarship awarded to a single student annually, in the amount of $2,000. The award recognizes those who demonstrate involvement, integrity, improvement and inclusion and is open to graduating Oakville high school students.
- The Kopriva-Robinson Family Foundation Award is a one-time award for a single student annually, worth $5,000. This award will be given to a graduating Oakville high school student who demonstrates non-academic excellence, including involvement, integrity, improvement and inclusion, at school, through extracurricular activities and in the community.
- The Christopher Lockwood Memorial Bursary is a $2,500 award given to four graduating students from St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School, White Oaks Secondary School, Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School and Thomas A. Blakelock High School in Oakville. Please note, students with a financial barrier to post-secondary education and who have a history of community service will be chosen by guidance counselors at each school.
To access available scholarships, bursaries and awards, students must sign up through the Community Education Awards Hub portal and complete an Eligibility Quiz that will determine which awards they can apply for. All applications are then completed in the system.
“We created the Awards Hub to make it easier for students to find all local academic awards,” said Michael Salem, Director of Communications for the Oakville Community Foundation. “The number of awards on the Hub has continued to grow each year ensuring that more local students and their families have the funds they need for post secondary education.”
Organizations offering scholarships, bursaries and educational awards through The Awards Hub include: Halton Learning Foundation, Halton Region Chinese Canadian Association, Henderson Partners, IODE, May Court Club of Oakville, Oakville Chamber of Commerce, Oakville Community Foundation (and its partners), Oakville Lions Club, Oakville Rotary Clubs, Optimist Club of Oakville, University Women’s Club of Oakville and Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services.
