Get To Know Sarah McPherson!

Congratulations to Sarah for a decade at The Foundation! Thank You for Your Service to Our Community!

Sarah McPherson is The Foundation’s Director of Philanthropy and Communications, who brings more than two decades of experience in fundraising and marketing. Originally from St. Catherine’s, Sarah now lives in Burlington with her husband, Dave and their two dogs, Skye and Cane.

In February of 2021, Sarah will have been at The Foundation for a decade. Among her many duties, she is responsible for developing philanthropic services and programs that meet the emerging needs of donors, as well as developing and implementing The Foundation’s communication strategies.

Sarah attended Wilfrid Laurier University, for Voice Performance, and a specialization in Opera and Oratorio. In case you missed it in the Spring, we have a special recording of Sarah singing to share! Click here to listen. Following her musical studies, she spent 18 years singing with one of Canada’s best Choirs, the Elora Festival Singers, which also provided recording and touring opportunities.

Professionally, her career started at an Architectural Office where she fell into Marketing, and hasn’t looked back since. Sarah continued her studies, attending both Humber College for Fundraising and Sheridan College for Marketing. Sarah has held the position of Marketing Director for The Burlington Mall and Hamilton Philharmonic, and was also the Director of Development and Marketing for the Art Gallery of Burlington and the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.

Sarah has a deep love for people and the arts, and has carried these passions throughout her career. In keeping with these passions, she established her own Fund with The Foundation, Artful Journey in 2018. This Fund is dedicated to supporting artistic communities in Oakville and surrounding areas.

She is also the current President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), Golden Horseshoe Chapter, which serves the fundraising and not-for-profit sector working to advance philanthropy through advocacy, research, education and certification programs.

Outside of the office, you can find Sarah singing with her church choir, travelling to her parents’ vacation home in France (prior to the pandemic of course), visiting with her grandchildren, or enjoying a glass of wine on her deck.

Sarah is happiest when connecting and chatting with people in our community. For all your philanthropic needs, we recommend contacting Sarah at Did we mention she’s fluent in French? Start chatting with Sarah today! A bientot!
