For Families

Whether you’re looking to start a Fund, or build a Fund, we’ve got you covered.

The Jackson Family Fund

Nearly 20 years ago, Bonnie and Terry Jackson decided they wanted to change the way they gave locally. They first considered setting up their own family foundation, but their financial planner suggested setting up a fund with the Oakville Community Foundation that would offer a simpler process and a closer connection to the needs of the Oakville community.

Since that time, Bonnie and Terry remain deeply involved in supporting The Foundation and will continue to involve the next two generations of their family in the philanthropic world.

Having dedicated decades to philanthropy and community involvement in Oakville, Bonnie and Terry Jackson have straightforward advice for anyone who is looking to do the same: set up a fund with your local community foundation and watch your community impact grow.

“Everyone has a different reason for starting a fund,” says Terry.
“But here’s what makes doing so a good idea. It’s a way to be intelligent about your finances while promoting goodwill and goodness.”

YOUR PASSION – YOUR CHOICE – YOUR FUND

We will work with you to find the option that meets both your financial and charitable objectives. The following are our Fund types for you to choose from.

Together we can make a greater impact. By choosing to give through The Foundation, your gifts are pooled with others and then invested and managed by professionals. This ensures that your contribution continues to grow – allowing you to give year over year, and build your own philanthropic legacy beyond your initial gift.

1. Donor Advised Fund

This is our most popular fund offering because of the flexibility it provides. On a year-to-year basis, you can choose to support your favourite registered Canadian charities or any of Oakville Community Foundation’s Charitable Causes. Through our Community Granting Program, our volunteer advisors will evaluate hundreds of grant applications annually on your behalf, ensuring your granting dollars will have the most impact.  Your granting can support many causes from Arts & Culture to Housing & Shelter, from Diversity & Inclusion to Health and Environment.  Or maybe your interest is in supporting Newcomers, Poverty or Recreation and Seniors.  The list is endless and we will work with you to meet your interests.

2. Community Fund

The Community Fund is our community granting fund, grown with the generosity of caring individuals and families who support the long-term vitality of our community. The Fund supports programs that align with our Vital Signs and Creating Vital Solutions work that strengthen the quality of life in Oakville and surrounds.

We want to thank those who have established a named Fund, within our Community Fund, to support The Foundation’s community building.

3.Bequest Fund

Create a Fund today and fund it through your estate when the time comes. It’s a way of ensuring the causes you care about are supported beyond your lifetime. In addition, you can change the charities you want the Fund to support at anytime without updating your Will.

4. In Memoriam

Donors who wish to set up a fund in honour of an individual, family or business can do so through a named fund. Donors who wish to establish this type of fund must provide a minimum balance of $2,500 for a Community Fund or $20,000 for a Donor Advised Fund.

5. Agency Fund

These funds can be set up by registered charities and anyone may contribute to them. The income generated each year is sent back to the charities. There are several options with these funds including Investment Pooling Arrangement and Endowed, where funds are held and invested by the Foundation in perpetuity.
