Based in Oakville and serving the Halton Region, the Marcus Logan Equity Foundation was established to support community-driven efforts that advance equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging. Through partnership with the Oakville Community Foundation, the foundation invests in initiatives that strengthen community capacity, address systemic barriers, and promote equitable outcomes for individuals and families across Halton.
I have created this foundation to support organizations and initiatives working to address inequities that impact people’s ability to fully participate in community life. Rooted in my lived experience and long-standing community engagement and allyship, my foundation focuses on advancing fairness, dignity, and access to opportunity for communities that have been historically marginalized.
The foundation takes a community-informed and collaborative approach, recognizing that sustainable impact is achieved by investing in local knowledge, lived experience, and community-led solutions. Through grantmaking and partnerships, I am dedicated to strengthening inclusive systems and fostering environments where individuals and communities can thrive./>
The mission of the Marcus Logan Equity Foundation is to support equitable, inclusive, and just communities by investing in initiatives that reduce barriers, uplift marginalized voices, and strengthen community well-being across Oakville and the Halton Region.
I envision a Halton community where equity is embedded in systems and decision-making, inclusion is practiced intentionally, and justice is actively pursued. My foundation imagines communities where barriers to belonging and participation are removed, and people across diverse and intersectional identities and abilities thrive. We imagine a community where allyship and shared responsibility contribute to long-term community resilience.
I have chosen three areas of focus that the foundation will support that reflect my equity journey to date, my lived experience, and my professional and personal commitment to equity, inclusion, justice, and allyship using an intersectional lens. These are the communities I am a part of, worked alongside, and those in which I have witnessed inequities in acceptance and belonging and funding support. They align with community-identified needs across Oakville and Halton.
2SLGBTQ+ Communities
My commitment to 2SLGBTQ+ communities is rooted in my identity, lived experience and advocacy focused on safety, dignity, and inclusion. The foundation will support innovative initiatives that create affirming spaces, address homophobia, bi-phobia and transphobia, expand access to supports, leadership opportunities, and community connection for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals.
Indigenous Communities
In alignment with principles of reconciliation, the foundation is committed to respectful partnership with Indigenous communities. This includes supporting Indigenous-led and community-informed initiatives that honour and centre Indigenous knowledge, strengthen cultural continuity, preserve language, and address the impacts of historical and ongoing inequities.
Racialized Communities
My work has long focused on challenging systemic racism and promoting racial equity. The foundation supports initiatives that improve access to opportunity, strengthen leadership and representation, and address structural barriers impacting racialized individuals and communities.
Intersectionality and Lived Experience
The foundation applies an intersectional lens, recognizing that many individuals experience overlapping forms of marginalization. By centring lived experience, the foundation supports initiatives that reflect the interconnected realities of identity, including those who are 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenous, racialized, or navigating multiple systems of inequity.
As a foundation with the Oakville Community Foundation, the Marcus Logan Equity Foundation values collaboration, accountability, and impact. I will prioritize partnerships with community-based organizations whose work aligns with equity, inclusion, and community well-being, and whose approaches are responsive to local needs across Oakville and Halton.
