Mark became smitten with Georgian Bay as a teenage camp counsellor on Beausoleil Island. He loved the rocky, rugged, “Group of Seven” part of the Bay. Killarney Provincial Park was a favourite destination for canoeing and camping. As a pilot, Mark enjoyed flying low and slow over the Bay, playing tour guide for his passengers and pointing out his favourite spots. When Mark took up sea kayaking, Georgian Bay was his place. He spent many happy hours poking around the islands and sharing good meals and tall tales with friends.
The Mark McDermott Memorial Fund will honour Mark’s love of Georgian Bay by supporting the work of the Georgian Bay Land Trust and the Georgian Bay Biosphere Reserve.
