Emma Shemko is The Foundation’s Communications Assistant and the newest member of our team! Her responsibilities include executing the intricacies of communications, social media and community engagement.
Born in Mississauga and raised in Oakville, Emma attended Garth Webb Secondary School and competed for Team Canada Acrobatics as part of the Oakville Gymnastics Club. She recently obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Environment & Society and Political Science from McMaster University.
Since graduating, she has built a YouTube channel to share her passion for reading and pop culture. She creates educational video essays that encourage her audience to think critically and embrace their nerdy interests.
After volunteering with The Foundation in high school and starting a Fund with her family, Emma is excited to start her journey working in the non-profit sector. “My dream is to be an author, but when it comes to my job, I want one that brings me joy, is meaningful and makes people’s lives just a little bit easier,” says Emma.
Outside of work, Emma is either volunteering with Conservation Halton, reading voraciously or writing her own novel draft. A kid at heart, she loves children’s media. Her favourite show is the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender and her favourite book series are The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
