Jawaria Khalid has joined The Foundation as an RBC Career Launch Associate, thanks to the RBC Career Launch Program. Joining us in September, Jawaria has been an integral part of the Grants team as we prepared for the holiday season!
Jawaria was born in Pakistan and moved to Canada with her family at the age of eight. She has a degree in Human Resource Management from York University. With The Foundation’s commitment to remove colonialism from our operational plans, policies and practices, Jawaria’s educational background was a perfect fit.
According to Jawaria, the RBC Program “has taught me to try new things and gain new experiences. The past nine months have been great to understand my likes/dislikes, skills and personality. I’ve also had the opportunity to network and create professional relationships with several people.”
The RBC Career Launch program is a one-year paid internship that gives new graduates the opportunity to gain practical experience and develop skills. The year consists of six months in a retail RBC branch, three months with a charity and three months in the RBC head office. The Foundation has benefited from the skills and dedication of RBC Career Launch associates in the past.
As for the future, Jawaria noted that she would like to pursue a career in social media management and public relations.
As her position with The Foundation comes to an end, she shared that her time with us has taught her the importance of team-work and collaboration. She is appreciative of the welcoming environment and how helpful everyone is when it comes to working together.
Jawaria stated, “working in a non profit organization has been a great experience for me. There were numerous opportunities and learning experiences professionally and personally. The work that The Foundation does is respectable and I was able to learn about so many different charities.”
Outside the office, you can find Jawaria creating makeup looks and videos, dancing or watching her favourite show, Friends.
We wish Jawaria all the best in her future endeavours and are grateful for all of the excellent work she accomplished during her time at The Foundation!
