Our Own Home is a Canadian Registered Charity based in Oakville, Ontario. Founded in 2024 by a group of concerned parents and family members, we are a grassroots organization committed to improving the housing opportunities for adults in our community who have developmental disabilities.
Our initial goal is to create a housing site to provide up to 6 respite housing spaces for adults with developmental disabilities, located in or adjacent to Halton Region. Our preference is to acquire a property in order to build or renovate, however alternate approaches would be considered if it facilitates quicker ability to establish operations.
Post launch of the respite site, we look to provide long term housing options, either by transitioning some of the initial site to permanent housing spaces, or by establishing a second site focused on long term housing.
Our Own Home seeks to work in partnership with parents and caregivers, community support organizations, charitable foundations, corporate and private donors, and other concerned community members to achieve these goals.
