Front Line Outreach, as the name denotes, goes to the front lines where the needs most exist. Our summer camp, “Dakota Day Camp”, serves the economically disadvantaged children and youth who live in social, subsidized housing. Our mission is to give them an unforgettably great summer experience, at no cost to the family, where life lessons will keep them from homelessness.
One of the reasons you don’t see the stereotypical homeless on the streets of Oakville is because we meet them where they are hidden from the public, in places like under the bridges and along 16 Mile and Bronte creeks, camped out. They choose to remain hidden because mental health is a significant reason for their homelessness, but they still need to be cared for and to know that someone cares.
