The Collaborative Problem Solving(CPS) is a new way of understanding and responding to kids’ challenging behaviour and has been shown to reduce challenges and mental health struggles. We teach that challenging kids lack the skill, not the will, to behave well – specifically skills related to problem solving, flexibility, frustration tolerance, coping skills and resiliency. Unlike traditional models of discipline, this approach avoids the use of power, control and motivational procedures and focuses on teaching the skills kids need to succeed. With coaching support, parents will learn the CPS approach and apply the Plan B conversation to help solve problems at home and support the mental health and cognitive skills of their children.
